About the Episode

Hey guys, welcome to the first episode of my new podcast, Adapt.  This podcast, along with this newsletter, is going to document my pursuit of new talents - from music to cooking to workouts and a whole bunch more.

In this first episode, I sit down with my best friend of the last 15+ years Danny Travis to talk about the earth shattering news that neither of us saw coming, and the fall out that followed.

Picture from Danny & Jackie’s Wedding, about 6 months before diagnosis.

Danny’s openness and positivity, from diagnosis to recovery, was amazing for me to watch.  And so I wanted to record this as the first episode of the podcast because for anybody that saw how Danny handled this, Danny put on a masterclass in handling adversity.

I will say a couple things before we get started:

  1. Get checked.  This is always something you think can’t happen to you, but it can.  Be proactive.

  2. If you’re someone who has been diagnosed, I hope that this conversation and Danny’s experience will provide you a little more clarity on what to expect, and give you the insights you need to beat this fucker.

  3. If you know someone who has been diagnosed, I hope that this will provide you some insights into what they might be feeling and thinking at each stage of the journey, and give you a better handle on the best things you can do to support them

  4. If you’re struggling to stay sane and positive in quarantine, or through any other type of adversity, I think Danny’s advice will provide you with the strength and calm you need to overcome

I’ll wrap up this intro with a poem that was Danny’s mantra throughout his recovery process (and that we both have tattooed on us as a result):

The devil whispers to the warrior,

You’re not strong enough to handle to the storm

The warrior whispers back

I am the Storm

Please enjoy this espresso fueled conversation with the Wildcard himself, Danny Travis.

Love, peace & elbow grease,

-sj

ps. Stay tuned for new episodes, coming soon…
